Environmental Commitments

Blommer recognizes that cocoa bean production, processing and chocolate manufacturing activities have an impact on the environment. We are committed to conduct business in an environmentally responsible manner and to provide sound environmental stewardship throughout the value chain by continuously reducing our impacts on air, land and water.

In 2018, the Fuji Oil Group formulated it's Environmental Vision 2030 and committed to:

CO2 Emissions: 40% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2, and 18% reduction in absolute Scope 3

Water Usage: 20% reduction per unit of production

Waste: 10% reduction per unit of production

In line with the Environmental Vison 2030, Blommer leads environmental initiatives in our plants in three areas: waste, water and energy.

Tree Planting Campaign

Blommer Chocolate Company in partnership with One Tree Planted will plant 1 tree for every 2000 lbs. of milk chocolate sold!

Over the years we have developed strong sustainable sourcing programs to provide our customers with socially and environmentally responsible ingredients. Making a Local Impact

We started this tree planting campaign at the beginning of 2021 and continue to support projects across the US and Canada, that promote environmental conservation and restoration. We work with One Tree Planted, an organization dedicated to making it easier for both individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation efforts. In order to make a local impact, Blommer has selected projects close to our own and our customer’s communities.

Trees play a vital role in creating clean air, clean water, and a stable climate. They also increase biodiversity, health, and have a positive social impact on local communities.

East Coast (Blommer East Greenville, PA)

2021 & 2022 – Planting trees in Pennsylvania for land restoration

10,800 (and counting)

We are supporting One Tree Planted and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in their commitment to protect the Bay from pollution and ensure that this national treasure continues to support the health and well-being of nearly 20 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals. The Susquehanna River delivers half of the freshwater entering the Chesapeake Bay, and nearly half of the pollution. By planting native trees along waterways, we create a natural buffer to pollution: trees filter and reduce polluted runoff and decrease greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Trees also help stabilize banks, mitigate flood, improve drinking water quality and increase soil fertility. This is all part of the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership, a collaborative effort launched in 2018 to improve Pennsylvania's communities, economy, and ecology by planting 10 million trees by 2025 throughout the Commonwealth.
MidWest (Blommer Chicago, IL)

2021 – Planting trees in Illinois for climate mitigation

19,200 trees

We are supporting One Tree Planted and Living Lands & Waters in protecting, preserving, and restoring the natural environment of our nation’s major rivers and their watershed. Launched in 2007, the MillionTrees Project distributes and plant trees in communities across the Midwest to reduce the impacts of climate change, increase biodiversity, reduce erosion, and provide shade to river systems to help reduce algae blooms and eutrophication. Thousands of volunteers assist each year, increasing community investment in planting and caring for native trees. A significant side benefit is the beautification of communities!

2022 – trees in Wisconsin for National Forest restoration

We are supporting One Tree Planted and their partners in their reforestation effort in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The surrounding communities depend on this forest for several outdoor activities such as hiking and gathering forests products. Reforestation of National Forest lands after severe wind events and timber harvest is an important activity that serves to maintain a healthy and productive National Forest for the present and future. Planting native trees helps to maintain and enhance watershed function and improve wildlife habitat for tourist attraction.
West Coast (Blommer Union City, CA)

2021 – Planting trees in California for forest fire restoration

10,000 trees

We supported One Tree Planted and the Government of California in their effort to restore post wildfire sites. Trees will be planted across Northern California, on private lands devastated by the Camp Fire of 2018. The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history, and the most expensive natural disaster in the world in 2018 in terms of insured losses. Northern California forest communities are built on a relationship with the forest and environment. It is integral to property value, as well as tourism, individual and community identity. All the landowners are recipients of the California Climate Investment Grants and by planting native trees on their lands, they will participate in increasing biodiversity, water quality, carbon capture and healthy forest cover.

2022 – Planting trees in California to restore Redwood Forest ecosystems

We are supporting One Tree Planted and their partner in restoring Redwood Forest ecosystems in the Mendocino Watershed. By planting native conifers on bare and vacant areas, the project will contribute to reducing the spread of sudden oak death, as well as increasing soil quality by reducing solarization of the soil and improving water infiltration. The reforestation project will contribute to boosting economic activity through work being conducted in the area, and, in the long term, bring positive economic impacts associated with tourism.
Canada (Blommer Campbellford, ON)

2021 – Planting trees in Nova Scotia for biodiversity protection

10,000 trees

We supported One Tree Planted and various Canadian environmental organizations in reforesting the Chignecto Isthmus and implementing long-term land conservation to protect the ecological connectivity that sustains Nova Scotia wildlife. The Chignecto Isthmus is a narrow 23 km land bridge connects Mainland Nova Scotia with the rest of North America. Fragmentation of this area caused by Transportation, Agriculture, Industrial Forestry and development has restricted ecological connectivity between the 2 areas. The mainland Moose population of Nova Scotia is at risk of going extinct if breeding opportunities are not possible between individuals on both sides of the Isthmus. By planting a diversity of Native Acadian Forest tree species, the site will regenerate quicker and with more diversity than would be possible if left alone. It will promote wildlife connectivity, water retention, and Carbon storage.

2022 – Planting trees in Ontario to green rural Ottawa

We are supporting One Tree Planted and their partner in Ontario to enhance tree planting in the Rideau Valley watershed. Much of the rural lands in this region supports a robust agri-food industry. By planting trees on marginal and idle lands, and as windbreak and watercourse buffers, the project is a great way for landowners to improve their property. The benefits include increasing crop yields, reducing soil erosion, improving water quality, and providing recreational areas. It will also bring habitat and shelter to numerous mammals and birds, like deer, red foxes, pileated woodpecker, and Cerulean Warble, increasing biodiversity. The community will also benefit from beautification of the landscape!
